The Mercedes-Benz Club Denmark is a community established by a group of Mercedes-enthusiasts in 1986. Since then, the club has grown to around 700 members, owning car models from 1930 up to modern times, and counting more than 1200 cars in total. At the request of the event coordinator for the club, who is also a friend of mine, I designed the poster and some digital material for the club’s annual Summermeet of 2025.

Going all out 80s

The Mercedes-Benz Club of Denmark needed some digital and print material for their annual summer meet. The brief for the design was to feature a classic, open Mercedes in a vintage, summer vibe-y look. The summer meet was to be held in Elsinore, so members would be recommended a cruise down Strandvejen (“beach road”) which is a long, winding road with charming houses on one side and the sea on the other.

Initially, we talked about creating a 50’s look, featuring a classic Mercedes-Benz like the 190 SL. Tilde, the event coordinator, asked a contact in Mercedes-Benz to send us some pictures. One of these were of was what I assume is an 80’s version of the SL. We agreed to do an 80’s inspired look instead, which Tilde was excited about, owning an 80’s car herself. Not to mention the club was established in the 80s, so in that way, the design would be a tribute of sorts to the beginning of it all.

…And ruining perfectly good photography

The picture sent by Mercedes was of course way too good quality to give off a vintage 80’s vibe, so I cracked open Photoshop and essentially ruined it. Analog photography meant film which was highly sensitive to light, temperatures, dust, and a delicate developing process involving various chemicals where many things can go wrong.

Poster design

Now that I had the car, I got started on the poster design, creating the foundation for the overall look which would be continued in the other materials, digital as well as print.

Goodie bag and stickers

Arriving at the hotel where the club is staying, members will get a goodie bag which would include the poster, stickers and general information about the event (as well as some sweets I imagine.)

As a bonus, the stickers also work well as profile photos!

Social media

The club has an Instagram and Facebook page, so they also needed a post and story graphic for Instagram, as well as a banner which they could use as the cover for the Facebook event for the meetup.

Conclusion

Despite not being an 80’s fan, I had a blast creating this design. Tilde and the rest of the board from the club were very happy with the finished result. Hopefully, the coming years will mean new posters, in which case I can’t wait until I get to work on the next one! A huge thanks to Tilde and the rest of the club for reaching out, here’s hoping the summer meet will be fantastic.
