Hey there—I’m Signe 👋
I craft digital products people also have to use on a Tuesday afternoon while it’s raining, they’re tired, and in a hurry. That’s what I mean about “digital solutions for the real world.”
I started out in development. Design came later and it stuck, because it was a creative and enjoyful. But the part I’ve always cared about the most, is the person on the other side of the screen.
These days I spend less time drawing and more time deciding what gets built and why. I lead by example and my goal is to build real products for real people, their real situations and real businesses.
Learn quickly
Most of my experience is from start-ups, where every day counts. Understanding what and why is critical, but doesn’t have to take months. I apply strategy to research and set clear goals, first.
Think holistically
I view each flow, each feature, each button as part of the larger system, which is again part of an overall experience and business strategy. I connect the dots from this view, often taking advanced technology to simplified logic and reason.
Build pragmatically
A design is only useful if it actually gets implemented, so that is my mission. I’m one of few designers willing to sacrifice aesthetics for functionality. At the same time, there’s only been few cases where it has been necessary. When you build smart, you can have it all (almost.)
Improve continously
It’s impossible to make something perfect the first time around, and even if you do get really close, there is always room for improvement. I never view something as done, because the world we live in is never “done.” Continous feedback and improvements is as important as new features; revisiting with fresh eyes is also innovating.
Lead empathetically
We’re all just people here who trip and make mistakes from time to time. I go to work to make a meaningful impact and to have a nice time while doing it, and my teammates are no different. I care a lot about mental wellbeing and psychological safety in the workplace. I share my knowledge and my good mood.
Communicate directly
I will tell you what I think whether you’re the CEO or an intern, even in my first week. I’m diplomatic, but direct, and I don’t mince words. Some people work really well with that and some people don’t. It’s worth knowing which you are before we start.
I live in a lovely little house at the end of a patchy road with my partner and our son.
As a nice contrast to my interest in modern technology, I have a passion for vintage motorcycles. I customise them, restore them and ride them—sometimes very fast down a 200m straight dirt track. My oldest bike is from 1945 and my newest is from 1994; it’s one year younger than I am.
